In Spiros' own words:
"Sunday's beach clean of Afrata was an incredible experience, especially for me, since I have always been cleaning beaches on my own. Thanks to the promotion of the event through PFG's social media channels, Amaryllis of Π3, who came from Athens only to take part in this beach clean, the 15 people from Clean Beaches in Kissamos, who regularly organise beach cleans, the two employees from the municipality of Kissamos who brought water, gloves, hats, and the van to remove the trash and finally the mayor of Platania and his brother, who also came to clean, the beach clean was a tremendous success. Even the local TV channel showed up to film the event. The whole experience was SURREAL and gives me GREAT HOPE, because it was actually quite easy to organise and it all came together in just a couple of weeks."
In Amaryllis' own words:
"The experience was amazing, it was my first time seeing such a trashed beach. I saw with my own eyes what I have only, up to now, seen in pictures. I realise even more how difficult it will be reduce plastic consumption. The local municipality showed a great interest to help and is planning further clean ups. We accomplished a lot in only two hours...I would have liked to see more locals from Chania participating in the clean up. Most of the volunteers were foreigners who have chosen to make Crete their home. Spiros put a lot of effort in organising this clean up!"
